William Henry Morgan became known as George Melvin, taking his mother’s maiden name for his surname. An article in The Age in November 1884 indicates that the child was already known as George Melvin by the age of 3 years and 9 months old ('George Melvin, of Sackville-street, Collingwood, having his leg injured'). This was about a year and a half after Angelina, his mother, married Alfred Haram. George Melvin was the executor of his mother's will.

Religious name — Sister Judith Anne Morgan CSMV Ethel never married. She was a school teacher at Clyde Girls School, Mount Macedon from 1931 before becoming a nun, joining the Community of St Mary the Virgin at St Mary's School, Wantage, Oxfordshire, England in 1939, and spent many years teaching for the order in India, dying in England of cancer. Later in life she kept up a correspondence with my father, Peter. She surely kept up correspondence with all her family in Australia and her personal archive would have been incredible. I checked with the order and alas, all was destroyed upon Ethel's death. She worked and lived in the following Community Houses: 1939 St Mary's School, Wantage, Oxfordshire 1941 St Helena's Retreat House, Ealing, London 1941 St Faith's Home, Lostwithiel, Cornwall 1945 St Mary's Convent, Poona, India 1951 on furlough, Wantage, May-November 1951 St Mary's Training College, Poona, India 1954 St Mary's Convent, Poona, India 1957 on furlough, Melbourne, sailed 29 November 1958 sailed for India from Melbourne, 1 June 1962 St Mary's School, Wantage, Oxfordshire, from April 1962 St Mary's Convent, Poona, India, from October 1969 installed as Mother Provincial's Assistant 1971 returned to St Mary's School, Wantage, Oxfordshire, 26 April 1971 St Mary's Home, Buxted (mentally handicapped adults) 1978 St Helena's Retreat House, Ealing, London 1979 St Katherine's House, Wantage, Oxfordshire (home for elderly ladies) I remember Sister Judith Anne very well. She was a fun loving person, she was excellent at table tennis, which she enjoyed playing after lunch. This would be in the 1970s. She was in remission from cancer before she died.

Clarence Blewett was a musician, like his father Arthur, and was a player at the Jubilee Picture Theatre, Nicholson Street, Fitzroy, at the time of his marriage. His occupation on electoral rolls was progressively given as musician, tailor, manager and manufacturer. In 1930 he set up a textile manufacturing company, Fiander & Blewett Pty Ltd, liquidated 1935. He was listed as a pattern cutter on the report of his death to the coroner. Clarence died at work, Thomas Wardle Clothing Manufacturer, 5th floor, 60 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, and was found deceased at his cutter's bench, in a sleeping position.

Gertrude Blewett Pearce was Emma Blewett's granddaughter. She emigrated to South Africa with her family in 1894 and married Christopher Cramond Walker, a mine clerk (who predeceased his wife by less than two months) in Johannesburg 5 March 1910. The Walkers had three children: Christopher James, Leonard Courtenay (died 1974) and Mary Geraldine. Both Leonard and Gertrude Pearce were given the middle name Blewett, their maternal grandmother's maiden name. That they weren't given their mother's maiden name, Redman, appears to confirm that Mary's father William Henry Redman was persona non grata, having more than likely abandoned the family, leading to the Redman family's separation by the 1881 census. It suggests to me that Emma Blewett was much loved by her daughter Mary.
