William Henry Morgan / George Melvin (1880-1962)
Personal details
Gender:
Male
Notes:
William Henry Morgan became known as George Melvin, taking his mother’s maiden name for his surname. An article in The Age in November 1884 indicates that the child was already known as George Melvin by the age of 3 years and 9 months old ('George Melvin, of Sackville-street, Collingwood, having his leg injured'). This was about a year and a half after Angelina, his mother, married Alfred Haram. George Melvin was the executor of his mother's will.
Family
Birth
Date:
3 February 1880
Notes:
It is unlikely that Thomas Morgan was William Henry Morgan's father, as it was stated in Thomas's 1888 court appearance that he had left Victoria eleven years ago (i.e. 1877).
Probate
Date:
17 September 1928
Notes:
Angelina owned 150 Sackville street, Collingwood ('a very old 5 roomed weatherboard cottage', presumably inherited from her father John Melvin). Her eldest living son, George Melvin, Sydney, was the executor. She left everything to her husband Alfred Haram, after his death to go in equal shares to her children Elizabeth, Mildred, Alfred, George and Valentina (Valentina only to get half the amount of the others).
