As a child John was a member of the Try Boy’s Society in South Yarra (1912-16). He unsuccessfully attempted to enlist to fight in World War One in 1916, his age given as 20 (he was barely 18). At the time he was working as a telephonist. John Blewett Morgan married Pearl Olive Barley in 1922. They had one daughter, and lived at 10 Maxwell Grove, Caulfield. John died from a heart attack in 1963, having retired as a postman in the Postmaster General's Department that same year. Pearl died the following year.
