Transcript:
Gabriel Blewitt [sic], 70, stonemason, born Penzance, Cornwall, 16 years in Victoria, died 14 May 1870, Melbourne Hospital, gangrene of the leg fracture from an accidental fall verdict at inquest held by R. Youl coroner 17 May 1870, father's name Gabriel Blewitt [sic], married at 19 to Kate [sic] Waters, children Elizabeth 43, Emma 36, Edward 33, 5 dead particulars not known.

This certificate was reissued in 1915, along with his son Gabriel's certificate, with a note by assistant government statist James Fenton on 16 September 1915 - the names read Blewett instead of Blewitt (in the originals presumably) and were corrected on his written authority. Who would have wanted both certificates corrected in 1915, 45 and 46 years after they were first created?

Who was the informant of this information, got Ruth's name wrong and knew the ages of his three living children but not at least the name of John Waters Blewett, who died in 1862 in Melbourne?
