Edward Hawkins was convicted for the manslaughter of John Vontom by flinging him in the Yarra, but the jury commended him to mercy on the ground of his intoxication at the time. He was remanded for sentence.

What an appalling jury. Hawkins barely served two years for what many perceived as 'wilful murder'.
