VONTOM.— In sad and loving memory of my beloved husband, John Vontom, who was drowned in the Yarra, at Mr. Nettleton's wool yards, on the 12th of December, 1887.

It is not the tear at the moment shed,
  When the turf is but newly laid o'er him,
That can tell how beloved is the soul that is fled,
  Or, how deep in our hearts we deplore him.

'Tis the fond remembrance sadly kept,
  When all lighter griefs have faded.
'Tis the tear through many a long day wept;
  A life by his loss all shaded;

—Inserted by his loving wife Ellen Vontom. Dunedin and Jersey papers please copy.
Louisa Maria Vontom, John Vontom's sister, was based in New Zealand, having married there in 1873.
