William Staines had a long criminal record and was known under various aliases: Bill Staines, William Steines, alias Haddon, alias Jenkins, alias Smith, alias Beaumont, alias ‘Bill the Butcher’ (for his profession rather than his personal tendencies). He was younger than Elizabeth Morgan by three or so years. Although named as the father of Elizabeth's son Edward on Edward's death certificate, William cannot have been the father, as he was still serving a two year sentence on the roads for ‘stealing money from the person’ (which means he was a pickpocket) when Edward was conceived.

William's origins and ultimate end elude me still.
